Fellrunners enjoyed the Bingley YVAA race on 12 August with its combination of hills, mud and steep downhill finish. The next week’s event at West Park, Leeds was a faster run for many on parkland with short woodland sections. Darren Midgley made a welcome return from injury to cross the line in 7th place while Peter Hughes was13th and first M55. Zoe Hipwell, Stacey Cleal and Anna Smith moved Queensbury into 13th place of 21 in the All to Count women’s team event and were joined by Abbie Cleal for the West Park race. After a strong showing by Kirkstall at West Park and with one fixture to go, the men’s team have run strongly all season to stand 5th in the All to Count table and 4th, just 36 points behind Horsforth, in the First 4 to Count.
At the Tour of Norland Moor on 24 August (6.5m, 800ft ascent) Graham Jowett and Joanne Horan both improved on their times from last year, Jo by the impressive margin of three and a half minutes to finish sixth lady and second in her category. Peter Hughes finished 11th overall taking 2nd M55 and missing the category win to Thornton Taylor of Rossendale by just 8 seconds, with Mick Coe and Richard Brook also in the thick of the race to finish 27th and 43rd.
