Queensbury Running Club held its first annual ‘Christmas Cracker’ in December, a virtual run where its members could run either 5k or 10k around Queensbury, on the outskirts of Bradford and Halifax. Profits from the entry fees for the challenge went on to support the Trussell Trust, with over £240 raised.

As well as running the distances, several members tackled the Strava Art challenge, to create festive-themed designs using the GPS recording, with members Karol and Phillip Whettlock, and Andy Young, designing their own Christmas tree pattern, and there were selfies a plenty from many of the other runners!

For the men, Martin Firth, member and run leader, proved to be the fastest 5k runner with a time of 23:55, whilst Andy Young came top as he tackled the 10k, with a time of 50:11.

For the women, Laura Taylor came first in 5k with 30:40 and for the 10k, it was a tremendous time for Charlotte Taylor, with 52:47.

Glenn Thornton, Race Director, said:
“It was great to see 36 of our members braving the challenging hills and weather of Queensbury during a snowy December, but it was all to raise money for such a great and important cause in these difficult times. We hope that the money we have raised will help provide much needed food to those who are struggling during the pandemic.”
