Vale of York Half Marathon 10th Sept 2017

The Vale of York Half Marathon was back for 2017: a fast and flat half marathon in aid of Sue Ryder. The race starts on the race track and ends by the runway in Sherburn-in-Elmet and takes in scenic closed roads along the way. A perfect introduction to the longer distance for the novice runner and for the more experienced racer it is a genuine PB opportunity.

Well done to all who took part especially the 7 QRCers who made the journey upto York.

Great North Run 10th Sept 2017

The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world, taking place annually in North East England each September. Participants run between Newcastle upon Tyne and South Shields. The run was devised by former Olympic 10,000 m bronze medallist and BBC Sport commentator Brendan Foster.

The first Great North Run was staged on 28 June 1981, when 12,000 runners participated. By 2011, the number of participants had risen to 54,000. For the first year it was advertised as a local fun run; nearly thirty years on it has become one of the biggest running events in the world, and the biggest in the UK. Only the Great Manchester Run and London Marathon come close to attracting similar numbers of athletes each year.

With another strong elite field once again in Newcastle, it was Mo Farah who managed to pull away with just a few hundred metres to go to win his 4th consecutive GNR in an incredible 1:00:06. Not to be outdone, Mary Ketany followed up her London Marathon win in April to record her 3rd consecutive win in Southshiels in an equally impressive 1:05:59.

QRC was out in force and all looked to have a really enjoyable day

Yorkshireman off road marathon 10th Sept 2017

The annual running of this race once again set off from Haworth on dry Sunday morning, with the option of the full marathon distance or the shorter half(???) entrants had plenty to aim for.

The route has plenty to offer everyone but this race is not for the faint hearted, taking in tarmac, grass, moorland and gravel tracks the route passes through many local villages and moorland including Haworth Moor, Ovenden Moor, Denholme, Cullingworth and Harden Moor to name but a few.

With checkpoints throughout the route and with full kit required to be carried runners need to be ready for anything thing.

5 QRCers took part this year with arguably Carl Heron having the performance of the day finishing the full 26 miles in 10th place overall.

Full Marathon

10th Carl Heron 3:52:37 (2nd MV50)

 Half Marathon

Lake Vrmway Half Marathon 10th September 2017

In 1988 Mr David Rowlands, treasurer of St Wddyn’s Church at Llanwddyn made a centenary appeal to raise money towards church roof and other repairs.

He placed this appeal in the Advertiser newspaper where Mr Doug Morris of the Oswestry Olympians read the appeal and contacted David Rowlands offering to organise a half marathon for the appeal. The rest, as they say is history.

This year’s race was held on the rather wet Sunday afternoon of September 10th. 1387 runners set out on the race under the starting orders of GARY HUGGINS, friend of both race and community.

Leanne Alston was our only entrant and a big well done to you, Leanne finished in a speedy 1:49:44 coming home in 457th place.

Shepley 10k 10th September 2017

A series of friendly races in the South Huddersfield area, this race the 4th of 5 races was run over at Shepley Cricket Club, a hilly road race with a kid’s fun run and family day afterwards. The route is a anti-clockwise route with a fast start and fast finish but a killer middle section.

With each race completed competitors are awarded a specially designed medal so that after all 5 races are completed the medals can be interlocked with each other.

The final race in the series is the scarcely named ‘Stairway to heaven’ taking place on the 30th September(12k mixed terrain).

3 QRCers ran Jo Lockwood, Steve Brook and Richard Brook, well done to you all.

Woodhouse Moor Parkrun 26th August 2017

Our 2nd away day at Woodhouse Moor Parkrun yesterday was a great morning. After meeting Ralph the RD, we were ushered to the start line for the usual safety briefing.

The route starts with a 700 metre diagonal sprint across the centre of the park followed by 2 full laps of the perimetre, finishing at the top of the park. With distance markers every kilometre and direction signs certainly helped all runners around the course.

A very warm welcome by Ralph and his team made us feel very at home. Well done to all that came and supported the away day and hopefully more of you will attend in the future.

Next up is Fountains Abbey on the 30th September.
