Hot Toddy, Auld Lang Syne & Giant’s Tooth

A busy Christmas period saw plenty of action for Queensbury Runners. Steve Wilby & Peter Hughes ran in the Hot Toddy on the 29th December. Full results can be found here: http://www.todharriers.co.uk/hot_toddy/hottoddy2013res.htm

Then there was the Auld Lang Syne fell race on New Years Eve, a popular Woodentops event that attracts a lot of big names. In the end it was won by Tom Addison from Helm Hill, although Alistar Brownlee used it as a training run joining in at the back of pack and working his way up before casually stopping for a chat with some spectators before the finish, after having caught 90% of the runners, Ben Clare included. The Giant’s Tooth was on New Years Day and has always been popular amongst QRC Runners as it’s a very local race for us, starting from the Causeway Foot and of course the first race of 2014! Still awaiting full results but Peter Hughes won his age Category as did Anna Smith. Darren Midgely was 12th and 3rd V40. Full results to follow….

The Stoop, Chevin Chase & Giants Tooth

Ben Clare & Anna Smith ran in ‘The Stoop’ fell race. A popular Woodentops race held a the end of December, some very windy conditions made this short but brutal fell race even tougher. Full results: http://www.woodentops.org.uk/assets/results/13stoop.pdf

The Chevin Chase on a boxing day was again won by Jonny Brownlee.Fine weather, large crowds and a good, undulating route made for an excellent race. Ben Clare, Chris Williams & Darren Midgely all ran in what was a very competitive field. Many people have asked about the The Giants Tooth fell race, annually held on New Years Day from the Causeway Foot. It is apparently on but I haven’t seen anything official regarding the race only by word of mouth.

Pudsey XC

An impressive turn out in the Pudsey XC for Queensbury results with 2nd place in the Vets competition and 4th place in the men’s competition. This puts Queensbury in 4th place in the overall Vets comp and in 8th in the mens overall competition.

WYWL X-Country Dewsbury – Race 1

We were 8th in the Mens Competition, 4th in the Vets Competition and 9th in the ladies competition. Some excellent performances and with a few injuries and and absences due to enter the fray in the next race as Pudsey we should be able to climb the overall standings!

Harriers Vs Cyclists 2013

Last weekend was the annual Harriers vs Cyclists race held by Bingley Harriers. This event is a competition between runners and cyclists with (usually) the first 10 in each category to score. The winning team holds the Fisherman Trophy for one year. The trophy is named after The Fisherman Inn from where the race starts and where the prizegiving takes place afterwards.

There was an excellent field turned out for a competitive race in conditions more suitable ‘dry’ for the cyclists than the previous year. Martin First was first back for Queensbury, narrowly missing out on an age category win, finishing 61st overl in 42:16, Ben Clare was next in 76th 43:53, then Mick Coe 82nd 44:15 finally followed by Chris Williams in 102nd 45:56
