The return of the Fire Fighters’ Five!
A race run over the ‘classic’ 5 mile distance. The race tackles a circular, undulating route which starts and finishes at the West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service Headquarters in Birkenshaw.
Beautiful sunshine welcomed everybody into Birkenshaw for the annual running of this event with a sell out 300 runners in attendance. There was 3 of us from Queensbury Jo Horan, Pete May and myself (Neil), it was fantastic to see Pete back racing after a long injury lay off and also getting back to some decent form.
So with a slight route change due to building works it was 2 laps of the headquarters, before heading out on to the main road with an opening 1.5 mile a long steady uphill, a nice decent took us back down and over the motorway to end with an uphill finish for the last 1.5 miles.
All 3 of us did well in the heat, with Pete taking the lead with 400 metres to go and Jo pipping me to the line.
47th Pete May 36:46
48th Jo Horan 36:48 (1st F35)
49th Neil Windle 36:49
Well done us
