Heptonstall Fell Race…
Four Queensbury runners took part in the Heptonstall Fell Race this weekend. A brutal 6.5 mile fell race with 1500 feet of ascent! With the sun baking down, the task looked daunting and proved too much for one runner who collapsed over the finish line suffering from dehydration and was subsequently taken to hospital in an Ambulance. A number of retirees from the race also highlighted how tough the race was.
Some gritty performances from Peter Hughes, Ben Clare, Mick Coe & Graham Jowett who all showed they could put it in right to the end, taking a number of places in the final climb up the last field. Full results not yet published.
Two Queensbury finishers in the top 5 this weekened at Bradford Parkrun. This was a really friendly and enjoyable event with breathtaking views of hills covered with heather and bilberries from two of the highest summits in the Cheviots. There was an ear-popping descent from the Great Cheviot before climbing back up Hedgehope Hill, and little shelter from the heat in spite of a cool wind on the high ground and clear streams in the valleys. Amazingly the organisers had managed to transport water to all but one of the checkpoints!

Steve Wilby was the only Queensbury runner to attend the Penistone Road Race, finishing 192nd from almost 300 runners in a time of 54:06. Full results here: http://pfrac.co.uk/docs/10K%20results%202013.pdf
The Helen Windsor 10k was well attended by Queensbury, a tough 10k run with quite a few small but draining climbs. Darren Midgely narrowly missed a top 10 spot, Peter Hughes claimed another top spot in the V55 category, Carl Heron on his way back to full fitness put in a good run, Phil Robinson was next with Richard Brook chasing just behind, a small stretch of downhill would surely have seen him catch him and Steve Wilby completed the team. Some more good results from the last few days for Queensbury Runners.
Last Thursday was the Bronte 5 in Haworth, 5 members took part on a sunny evening. Chris Williams was first back in 5th place after a hard fought finish in a time of 28:53. Darren wasn’t far behind, bettering his time from the previous year in 30:41 and 13th place in a high quality field of runners, Peter Hughes was next in 1st v55 31:25, Ben Clare followed in 33:20, perhaps suffering after a very fast start as the huge beef sandwich he’d gulped down in the car en route caught up with him! Mick was next, just two places behind in 33:46 and Steve Wilby completed the team finishing 43:43. Full Results: http://kcac.co.uk/2013/06/full-bronte-results-2/#more-13408
