Anna Smith travelled to Horton-in Ribblesdale for the 60th Three Peaks fell race. There was a tremendous atmosphere from the time registration opened with spot on organisation at race HQ and all the way round the course. Light rain cleared as 782 starters headed up Pen-y-Ghent and there were clear skies and sun from then on. A breeze helped runners on the steep ascent of Whernside but became a headwind adding to the difficulties of the long rocky stretch from Ingleborough back to Horton. Loose stone and slippery mud combined with gradients, about a mile of road, a boggy section heading into Whernside and limestone outcrops made the terrain tough on the feet but there was a great atmosphere all the way round and just over the finish line was a marquee with friendly faces, great live music and a hot meal. Anna was 584 of 704 finishers in 5:07:40.
