Continuing a great off-road season for Queensbury Chris Williams took 5th place overall on a twisting, hilly course at Over the Odda on 16 May. Lee Hipwell and Graham Jowett showed terrific form in the same race.
Mick Coe represented the club strongly at the Austick Amble, covering the 8 mile 1,200ft course in 1:00:47 to take 41st place. Then on a windy day he took 3 minutes off his 2014 time at the Wharfedale Half Marathon, finishing in 1:49:47. Matt Fielding also made the trip to the Dales and completed the same tough route in a time of 2:08:18. These are impressive results on very varied and demanding routes. Well done everyone.
Mick and Graham are placed fourth and fifth in the individual league. The next events are Reservoir Bogs (Hebden Bridge, 20 June), the Baildon Canter (11 July) and Widdop (15 July). Full points and the fixture list are here.
Last weekend saw the third iteration of the Over the Odda 10k in Hawksworth, a race which is increasing in popularity year-on-year. The race is part of the Airedale Athletics Off-Road Summer Challenge and takes in some of the stunning views to be had over the Aire and Wharf valleys.
Congratulations to all runners, especially Chris for coming 5th out of a field of 236 runners and to Graham for coming first in his age category.
