Airedale Athletics Off-Road Summer Challenge

Continuing a great off-road season for Queensbury Chris Williams took 5th place overall on a twisting, hilly course at Over the Odda on 16 May. Lee Hipwell and Graham Jowett showed terrific form in the same race.

Mick Coe represented the club strongly at the Austick Amble, covering the 8 mile 1,200ft course in 1:00:47 to take 41st place. Then on a windy day he took 3 minutes off his 2014 time at the Wharfedale Half Marathon, finishing in 1:49:47.  Matt Fielding also made the trip to the Dales and completed the same tough route in a time of 2:08:18. These are impressive results on very varied and demanding routes. Well done everyone.

Mick and Graham are placed fourth and fifth in the individual league.  The next events are Reservoir Bogs (Hebden Bridge, 20 June), the Baildon Canter (11 July) and Widdop (15 July).  Full points and the fixture list are here.

Austwick Amble Fell Race

Father and daughter team Mick and Hannah Coe spent their bank-holiday Monday competing in the Austwick Amble fell race, just on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Proud father Mick watched his daughter Hannah come in 3rd in the “Under 14 Girls” junior fell race, bagging herself a well deserved prize. Hannah, who runs for Queensbury RC, has been slowly building up her training using the Parkruns, where she has been getting fitter and faster, culminating in today’s fantastic result. Well done, Hannah!

Father Mick ran the 8-mile fell race and finished in 41st position out of 170 runners and in a time of 1:00:47. Will we see a sub 60-minute time next time around? Mick needs to keep up his good form and Hannah is slowly catching him. Well done to both.
