Natterjack Full Results: http://www.natterjackseaside10k.com/Results/2013   Saturday saw the last race in the

Airedale Athletics Off-Road Summer League at Thieveley Pike. Final results pending for the off road challenge. Anna was the only Queensbury Runner to take on the race and sent in a brief report:

Early cloud lifted and it was sunny with perfect visibility by the time the race started.  The steep climb was early in the race and runners used grassy handholds to scramble past each other.  The turn to the pike itself meant heading into a stiff easterly wind before rounding the trig point and racing back down to the line at the end of the finishing field. Provisional results are that I was 90th of 135 finishers in 46.42 and 1st FV50 (except the first lady, who was in the same category).

Sunday was the Horsforth 10k from Woodhouse Grove School. A fast, uphill start for 3km and then some nice steady downhill followed by a long stretch back on the canal before finishing in the playing fields. A big turn out packed with top runners made for a competitive race. Phillip Tedd who works at Woodhouse Grove, also a member of Sale Harriers, won the race in 33:18 just ahead of Ian Fisher of Otley AC. Chris Williams finished 10th in 35:34, Darren Midgely 30th in 37:39, Curtis Brennan, on his was back from Illness put in an excellent time of 42:01 and Richard Brook finished in 44:37.

Ben Clare added another of the classic endurance races to his CV on Sunday by entering the famous 3 Peaks Cyclocross Race, a 36 mile off road bike ride taking in the 3 Peaks of Yorkshire, Whernside, Ingleborough & Pen-Y-Ghent. For more info on this race have a look at the website: http://www.3peakscyclocross.org.uk/.

Ben finished in 5:21:25, impressive considering he only got his bike a month ago and has spent more time carrying it around than riding it to get used to hauling it up the steep faces he faced on Sunday.

Shibden Spinner Sportive

Phil Robinson battled the tough conditions on Sunday in the Shibden Spinner Sportive, a 90 mile cycle starting from Shibden with the first climb being Lee Lane! He finished 3rd place after 6:32:38 on the bike! Conditions were so tough, Phil said he was out of the seat pedalling hard on a gradual incline near Scammonden Dam and was still only hitting 4mph! Although he made up for this reaching 48mph downhill with the following tailwinds!

Richard ran in the Spoffoth Gala 10k race on Monday 26th August. A hot day proved to make the undulating course even tougher, finishing 80th from over 400 in 50:25. Weekend Report

The Tour Of Norland Moor hosted by Halifax Harriers is a fell race starting from Copley Cricket Club. A food & music festival was also staged and provided some good food and beer after the race. Some excellent runs from Queensbury resulted in the team prize, with Chris Williams 3rd (38:49) , Martin First 8th (41:44), Mick Coe 24th (44:42), Graham Jowett 69th (52:50) & Jo 72nd (53:05). An excellent achievement given the strong turn out from much bigger clubs such as Calder Valley. Martin was also 1st in his age category, so a very good day for Queensbury RC. The race was won by Tom Adams of Ilkley Harriers, recently selected to represent England in the World Mountain Running Championships which take place in Poland next month.

Heptonstall Fell Race…

Four Queensbury runners took part in the Heptonstall Fell Race this weekend. A brutal 6.5 mile fell race with 1500 feet of ascent! With the sun baking down, the task looked daunting and proved too much for one runner who collapsed over the finish line suffering from dehydration and was subsequently taken to hospital in an Ambulance. A number of retirees from the race also highlighted how tough the race was.

Some gritty performances from Peter Hughes, Ben Clare, Mick Coe & Graham Jowett who all showed they could put it in right to the end, taking a number of places in the final climb up the last field. Full results not yet published.

The Helen Windsor 10k was well attended by Queensbury, a tough 10k run with quite a few small but draining climbs. Darren Midgely narrowly missed a top 10 spot, Peter Hughes claimed another top spot in the V55 category, Carl Heron on his way back to full fitness put in a good run, Phil Robinson was next with Richard Brook chasing just behind, a small stretch of downhill would surely have seen him catch him and Steve Wilby completed the team.
