Eccup 10 mile road race

The Eccup 10 Mile Road Race, organised by Abbey Runners, took place on Sunday 7th July in blazing sunshine. More than 750 runners and several litres of sun cream hit the road in a highly competitive race which incorporates both the YCAA and the YVAA 10 Mile Championships for Men and Women. Shade was hard to find and quite a few runners either dropped out or fell back in temperatures well about 20°C. Otley AC had a fine day in the sun with Matt John winning the men’s race in 55.07 (he was 28th in the 2013 London Marathon) followed home in second place by team mate Scott Harrington in 56.40. Unsurprisingly Otley won the men’s team prize. In third place winning the 1st M50 prize was Carl Thackery (alas not Carl Heron) of Hallamshire Harriers. If you don’t know this guy’s credentials then, amongst many career highlights, he was 20th in the 1987 World Cross Country championships and third at the World half-marathon in 1993 in a time of 61.13! The first lady was Pauline Munro (Wetherby) in a terrific ninth position overall in 59.43.

Carl Heron, QRC’s only entry, finished in 69.23 in 87th place. Other notable performances from Bradford-based runners were Quentin Lewis (Baildon, 6th in 58.59) and Donna Edmondson-Booker (Idle, 1st F35 in 66.54). All in all it was one of those days when you felt really pleased to get around without succumbing to the heat.

A Quick Catch Up….

Since the YVAA at Pudsey there has been another instalment of the series at Meanwood. Anna Smith took 5th spot in the ladies race whilst in the mens race Darren Midgely finished 10th, Peter Hughes 15th, Mick Coe 33rd, Phil Robinson 58th, Graham Jowett 83rd. Full Results can be found here: http://www.yvaa.org/2013/13GP5-Meanwood.htm

Steve Wilby was the only Queensbury runner to attend the Penistone Road Race, finishing 192nd from almost 300 runners in a time of 54:06. Full results here: http://pfrac.co.uk/docs/10K%20results%202013.pdf

The Helen Windsor 10k was well attended by Queensbury, a tough 10k run with quite a few small but draining climbs. Darren Midgely narrowly missed a top 10 spot, Peter Hughes claimed another top spot in the V55 category, Carl Heron on his way back to full fitness put in a good run, Phil Robinson was next with Richard Brook chasing just behind, a small stretch of downhill would surely have seen him catch him and Steve Wilby completed the team. Latest Results…

Some more good results from the last few days for Queensbury Runners.
Last Thursday was the Bronte 5 in Haworth, 5 members took part on a sunny evening. Chris Williams was first back in 5th place after a hard fought finish in a time of 28:53. Darren wasn’t far behind, bettering his time from the previous year in 30:41 and 13th place in a high quality field of runners, Peter Hughes was next in 1st v55 31:25, Ben Clare followed in 33:20, perhaps suffering after a very fast start as the huge beef sandwich he’d gulped down in the car en route caught up with him! Mick was next, just two places behind in 33:46 and Steve Wilby completed the team finishing 43:43. Full Results: http://kcac.co.uk/2013/06/full-bronte-results-2/#more-13408
