Salford 10k – 25/03/16

Salford 10k – 25/03/16

I like to provide a little description of the race but a search of the Salford Harrier’s website mentioned only this, “Fast flat 2 lap course…”

So, Salford 10k, a fast, flat, 2 lap 10k course… in Salford.

This was entered by 3 of our runners…

Chris Williams – 18th – 33:15 (5:21/mi)
Richard Brook – 183rd – 41:41 (6:44/mi)
Stephen Brook – 452nd – 54:47 (8:52/mi)

Well done to all

Heptonstall 15 – 20/03/16

Congratulations to Graham Jowett who, on Sunday at 10:30, ran the Heptonstall 15.

This is a 15.4mi/24.8km race with 3170ft of ascent. The Heptonstall Fell Race is across the best of the local landscape around Heptonstall in the upper Calder Valley. The route takes in a mixture of steep-sided wooded valleys, upland pasture and pathless moorland.

He’ll have be hurtling down grassy slopes, struggling across stretches of bog, scrambling up through thick heather, dodging through dense woodland and – most of all – racing over some wild open countryside.

Let’s give Graham a massive well done for completing the race in a fantastic 3:11:41.

Haworth Hobble – 13/03/16

Now, on to possibly the least know race of the weekend, The Haworth Hobble.

For those that are not aware, this is an Ultramarathon (any race over the marathon distance of 26.2mi). It’s a 32mi race over Yorkshire Pennine paths and tracks from Haworth over the moors to Calderdale, up Stoodley Pike and back to Haworth via Heptonstall and Crimsworth Dean. As you can imagine this is far from flat, in fact it ascends a colossal 4400ft.

So, a massive well done to Carl Heron who ran this monster in an impressive 05:43:49 and finished 67th out of a field of 310.

Excellent effort.

Regards,

Matt

Sunday 06/03/15 – Keighley BigK 10k and Windmill 6

Yesterday (Sunday) saw two of our runners endure the hilly Keighley BigK 10K in support of Sue Ryder.

Philip Lickley ran in 51:17
Andy Smith ran in 1:02:55

Very well done, gents.

Lets also congratulate David Hepworth who, yesterday, completed the Windmill 6. This run forms part of a series of 5 races in and around Huddersfield. More info can be found at http://www.trailandroadseries.co.uk

Windmill 6 is an undulating road race around the Windmills on the top of Spicer Hill. The route is an anti-clockwise loop around the windmills and taking in the breathtaking views across Huddersfield Wakefield, Penistone and surrounding areas.

David completed the race in 55:08. Well done, David!

I have to say I’m a little gutted I wasn’t aware of this as it looks like a cracking start to a great series.

Below is an excerpt from David’s post to the QRC page,
“So a very spur of the moment race this morning! The Windmill 6 part of The Trail and Road Series (South Huddersfield). Thanks to Steve Boyer for the post that alerted me to the race. The course was straight forward on gently undulating and thankfully quite, country roads. Great scenery and lots of fresh air. Bit nippy at the start with a light flurry of snow to set us off and we finished in the bright and surprisingly warm sunshine. Marshals at the points where they were needed and mile marked made it a well organised and easy to follow route. 4 more to go! Trooped the club colours ( although I’m the first admit I’m not the best advert for the club) and managed to lumber round in 55:08”12495263_10208611950279874_2844800130641103202_n 12799346_10208611946279774_4034652073153396945_n Windmill6

Podium 5k – Barrowford – 05/03/2016

4 QRC runners ran the Podium 5k tonight over in Barrowford.

Matt Thornton and Glenn Thornton ran the B Race in 19:50 and 23:50 respectively.

Chris Williams and Tom Collinge ran the A race (Sub 18 min requirement) in 15:42 and 16:14 respectively.

Well done guys excellent times. PB’s for all but Tom who narrowly missed out, unfortunately.

Next time, young man!

10k Results

I see that while a vast amount of us were running in the final WYWL a couple of QRCers were running the Hudderfield 10k.
Well done to:
Graham Rhodes – 44:14
Steve Brooks – 54:15

Also, a massive WELL DONE to Lucy Reynolds who, yesterday, ran her first ever 10k. She completed the Cancer Research UK Manchester Winter run 2016 in 1:11:47.

Well done and here’s to many more 🙂

Regards,
Matt
