Bradford 10k 2014

Clear but windy conditions for the Bradford 10k this weekend made the flat route a little more testing and hindered some attempts at personal bests, but the course does lend itself to a quick 10k time even if the route is a little dull – mainly along Canal Road towards Shipley & back. An excellent overall turnout of around 1,500 runners made the event a good and competitive field although last years winner Tesfaye Debele was clear winner again in this years race in31:42, followed by Scott Harrington of Otley, 33:21 and Kevin Ogden of Spen AC in 33:41. First lady wasDanielle Hodgkinson, coming in an impressive 22nd overall in 35:32. The first 20 positions were all closely contested with a good turn out from all the elite local runners. First back for Queensbury was the vastly improving Andy Stott in 42:48, followed closely by Richard Brook in 43:05, then came Phil Robinson 44:22, Graham Jowett 46:34, Steve Wilby 53:43 & Andrew Tempest-Mitchell

Ovenden Fell Race 2014

Clear and calm conditions prevailed on Saturday for the Ovenden Fell Race. A local fell race, starting at Ogden Reservoir. Eight runners from Queensbury took part and some much appreciated support from others out and about on the route! Chris Williams was first back for the club in 6th place, despite getting lost in the last mile on a well known local route! Confusion was caused due to some flags been incorrectly placed resulting in part of the field taking a slightly confusing detour. Ben Clare, also caught up in the confusion towards the end finished in an excellent 16th spot, Pete Hughes 24th and within the same minute Mick Coe 31st, our next four runners were all grouped within a few places including Graham Jowett 73rd, Anna Smith 74th, Andrew Stott marking his debut in a Queensbury Vest 76th and Lee Hipwell 80th.

There are two excellent photo galleries on the Woodentops webiste, have a look here: http://www.woodentops.org.uk/index.php?topic=home&subtopic=morephotos

Wadsworth Trog

Anna Trog

Widely regarded as one of the toughest fell races in the calendar, especially locally, Anna Smith was the only member of Queensbury to brave the tough conditions and get around the 21 mile route featuring 4000 feet of ascent. Gale force winds and knee deep, strength sapping bogs and tussocks for the duration as well! Full details of the race can be found on the Calder Valley website as well as full results: http://www.cvfr.co.uk/races/wadsworth-trog/

YVAA Pudsey

The new YVAA season kicked off at Pudsey on Sunday. The downpour on Saturday made for very wet & boggy conditions in Blackcarr Woods. Queensbury fielded a strong mens team and finished second on the day in the first 4 to count competition behind hosts Pudsey. Darren (9th – 3rd in category), Pete Hughes (15th – 1st in category), Mick Coe (17th – 3rd in category) & Carl Heron (29th) being the first four back, follwed by Graham Jowett (64th – 3rd in category) & Steve Wilby (109th).

The Hebden

hippins

On Saturday 18 January runners and walkers set off from Mytholmroyd in the early morning half light, heading up to the mill buildings at Old Town to continue – after refreshment – along the 22 mile route to Hardcastle Crags, Blackshaw Head and Cragg Vale before a final descent to very welcome hospitality in the church hall at Mytholmroyd again.  The route was intricate, needing either good map reading skills at speed or a recce beforehand but it was a friendly, well-organised event and people helped each other out.  One to look forward to next year.

WYWL: Skipton XC

A club record for Queensbury in terms of numbers for the Skipton XC on January 5th meant we scored very well in the team scores. Some excellent individual runs, in particular from Martin Firth and all the ladies, Anna, Jo and Helen ensured a record score for the ladies team. The overall standings are now as follows:

[notice]The next race hosted by LBT at Temple Newsham on January 26th[/notice]

Hot Toddy, Auld Lang Syne & Giant’s Tooth

A busy Christmas period saw plenty of action for Queensbury Runners. Steve Wilby & Peter Hughes ran in the Hot Toddy on the 29th December. Full results can be found here: http://www.todharriers.co.uk/hot_toddy/hottoddy2013res.htm

Then there was the Auld Lang Syne fell race on New Years Eve, a popular Woodentops event that attracts a lot of big names. In the end it was won by Tom Addison from Helm Hill, although Alistar Brownlee used it as a training run joining in at the back of pack and working his way up before casually stopping for a chat with some spectators before the finish, after having caught 90% of the runners, Ben Clare included. Full results can be found here: http://www.woodentops.org.uk/assets/results/13ALS2.pdf

The Giant’s Tooth was on New Years Day and has always been popular amongst QRC Runners as it’s a very local race for us, starting from the Causeway Foot and of course the first race of 2014! Still awaiting full results but Peter Hughes won his age Category as did Anna Smith. Darren Midgely was 12th and 3rd V40. Full results to follow….
