BRADFORD PARK RUN
It’s great to see so many Queensbury RC runners taking part in the Bradford Park run these days. Congratulations to Diane McDonnell, Jo Robinson, Diane Simpson, Bronte Simpson, Abbie Cleal, Stacey Cleal, Andy Tempest-Mitchell, Peter May and Chris Williams who all completed the course on Saturday 26th July. Chris was the race winner in 17.24 finishing over a minute quicker than the second placed runner, and only three seconds outside his park run personal best.
The second Saltaire Shaker took place on Sunday 27th July. The 15 km route is mostly flat along the canal and river with a detour up a hill and into the woods. It was warm and sunny especially on the outward section with a welcome breeze on the return section to Roberts Park.
Martin Firth had a great run coming home in 9th position (1st M55) and getting under an hour in an excellent time of 59.27. Carl Heron knocked a minute off his time last year finishing 18th in 64.27. Declan Craven who has been training with us was 32nd in 69.05. Richard Brook took two minutes from his 2013 time finishing in 35th in 70.38. Congratulations to club newcomer Simon Thomas who was 3rd M60 in 89.29 in 102nd place. If there was a team prize then Queensbury would have shared it with Kirkstall Harriers!
The men’s race was won by Scott Harrington (Otley AC) in 53.39; the first lady home was unattached runner Sophie Garrad in 68.23.
There are some great photos of the race on the Woodentops.org.uk page at http://woodentops.org.uk/index.php?topic=home&subtopic=morephotos. Thanks to Dave and Eileen Woodhead for capturing all this.
